My memories of Chava were during his younger years where he lived at the ranch in Valle De Las Palmas.  He would saddle up his favorite horse and give us rides around the ranch.  It was awesome!                                                                     May your Sprit catch the beauty of the ranch at Valle De Las Palmas, and the horse you loved to ride live within your Sprit. My uncle Jose(Chava) Santoyo was a father figure, mentor, and motivating person in my life. He was a firm pillar of a man who shared many of his talents and skills with me.  One of the many lessons he helped me understand was the virtue of Patience. While working on a car one weekend, we had encountered a problem that he and I could not figure out.We had worked most of the day on it, we were tired, hot, and mentally exhausted and frustrated . He told me to go eat and we would finish the next day. While I ate and rested, he sat on a chair and meditated. It was now late in the evening and several hours had passed by. I went outside to ask him what time we would start the next day. He told me he had figured out the problem. So we started to work on the car, and sure enough he found the solution and we repaired the car. We had such a great feeling of satisfaction. Afterwards he told me “ Sometime’s you just have to step away and clear your mind and relax. Then when you can focus and think clearly you will be able to find an answer to the problem. As a mechanic you need to have patience.” I will miss him tremendously.  

Jose was my closest uncle. We lived together since 1977, when he & his son came to live with us. He was like a father figure to not only me, but also my sister & 2 of my cousins. He instilled in us the hard-working virtue of getting the job done as best we can. I will miss the good times we had going to the park & playing baseball or soccer, his favorite sports. We will miss him dearly. God rest his soul.
