Joe passed away unexpectedly on April 2, 2020 in Loma Linda, California. Joe – husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather – was 86 years old. He was an only child born in Jalisco, Mexico to Amalia Verdin and Maclovio Chavez on March 21, 1934. He is preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, and great grandson.
Love in the form of wife Mary Martinez found him shortly after moving to Wayne, Michigan where they married in 1955. In 1963, the couple moved their small family to San Bernardino, California. Their family would later grow into two sons, six daughters, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. The couple established, owned, and operated their own business, American Glass Co., for 36 years to then entrust their business to their son, daughter, and son-in-law upon their retirement.
Joe found joy and health in different physical activities including swimming, dancing, golf, and tennis. He found great purpose and satisfaction in his opportunities to work on houses and to absorb and understand new technology. He found honor in becoming a citizen of his adopted country. Joe was very accomplished and he encouraged his children and grandchildren to be successful.
Joe is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Chavez Verdin, two sons, Mark and Tudy, six daughters, Mela, Lisa, Lidia, Marisa, Sandra and Nancy, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was loved beyond words and will be greatly missed.
