With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of Juan De Dios Diaz, who entered eternal rest on May 2, 2026, in Redlands, at the age of 87. Juan was born on August 27, 1938, in El Rincon, where he spent his early years surrounded by the beauty and traditions of his homeland.
Juan was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, loyal friend, and faithful servant of God. He shared 63 beautiful years of marriage with the love of his life, Rachel Diaz. Together they built a family rooted in love, laughter, faith, and hard work.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Rachel Diaz; his children, Lupe Acosta, Pete Diaz, and Jess Diaz; his cherished grandchildren, Kian Acosta, Paige Acosta, and Adam Diaz; and his adored great-grandchildren, Valen Acosta and Zayn Acosta, who brought endless joy to his life.
Juan attended school in Durango, Mexico, and throughout his life became known as a hardworking and talented man. He first worked as a sawmill operator before later dedicating himself to the maintenance field. Truly a “jack of all trades,” Juan could do almost anything — carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, automotive repair, and cooking. Family and friends will forever remember his delicious homemade beans and fresh flour tortillas made from scratch with love.
He proudly served in the Mexican military at El Cipres military base in Maneadero, Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. His dedication, discipline, and strength carried with him throughout his life.
Juan had a special gift for bringing smiles to others. He was kind, gentle, calm, easy-going, playful, funny, sociable, and always ready with a joke or warm laugh. One of his proudest accomplishments was being featured in the Redlands Daily Facts newspaper for his incredible topiary talent after trimming a bush into the shape of a bird.
A man deeply devoted to his Catholic faith, Juan was a lifelong member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. He faithfully served his parish as a Eucharistic Minister and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, helping with fundraising events and cooking for the community he loved so dearly.
Juan found happiness in life’s simple pleasures — barbequing with family, watching wild animal documentaries, swimming, hunting, fishing, playing pool, and especially spending time with his grandchildren. He loved seafood and never passed up an opportunity to enjoy fish, especially later in life when he enjoyed dining at California Fish Grill.
Some of the family’s most treasured memories are of Juan leading the children on Easter hikes through the hills, laughing together during outdoor adventures, and creating unforgettable moments biking, swimming, and playing basketball with his children.
Though our hearts ache in his absence, we are comforted knowing his legacy of love, faith, humor, and strength will live on through the many lives he touched.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 115 W Olive Ave, Redlands, CA 92373, US, on May 27, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, followed by a Committal Service at Montecito Memorial Park, 3520 E Washington St, Colton, CA 92324, US, on May 27, 2026, from 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm.
