June R. Janicki

On the beautiful, sunny morning of June 5, 2013, mother, grandmother, wife, sister, and friend June Rosalie Janicki, 74, passed away to stomach cancer in her home in Banning, surrounded by her family she loved so dearly.

Born June 24, 1938 in the small farming town of Langdon, North Dakota, she was the youngest of the five daughters of Edward and Katherine Lorenz. June graduated from St. Alphonsus Catholic High School in 1956 and, after attending business college, worked in the administrative offices of the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. Upon the death of her father, June returned home to help her mom pack, sell their farm, and move to Plymouth, Michigan. There, she met John Janicki and they were married in July of 1963. Together, they have four children: John, Susan, Peter, and Paul. In 1975, the family moved to California and settled in Placentia, remaining there until 15 years ago when they moved to Sun Lakes in Banning, CA.

June loved the outdoors; a love that brought her to the beach and mountains to go hiking and camping and had her working on the beautiful flowers in her garden. Her warm smiles and infectious enthusiasm will be missed by her friends in line dancing, water aerobics, and garden club, as well as by the entire neighborhood that surrounded her in Sun Lakes. She was the friendliest neighbor, always eager to welcome new people to the community and make friends.

But who will truly miss her most will be her beloved grandchildren, to whom she was their biggest fan in everything they did. She could usually be found attending concerts, sporting events, and celebrations for her family, and lived in the light of her favorite quotation: that “the greatest joy in life is to see those you love happy.”

She is survived by her husband, John Janicki, and her sister, Betty Nelson of Ocala, Florida. Her children and their families are her son John and his wife Kimberly and their two sons Ryan and Jacob of Highlands Ranch, CO; her daughter Susan and her husband Bryan Reid and their children Katelyn and Davis of Redlands, CA; her son Peter and his wife Jenn and their boys Jack, Jacob, and Luke of Chandler, AZ; and her son Paul and his wife Stephanie and their daughter Rylee of Brea, CA.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to the American Cancer Society in hopes that a cure can be found.
