Leanne and I met at our inclusive, Christian summer camp, Pilgrim Pines Camp, when we were teenagers (14, I think) and have stayed friends ever since. Leanne was an excellent friend and confidant, and was always radiating joy. We spent our 21st birthdays together - mine in Long Beach and hers in Vegas. Leanne knew that I hated driving, and although we didn’t live terribly close to each other, she quite often made the drive to Long Beach to hang out. Instead of shaming or judging me, she accommodated me. When inviting me to her wedding, Leanne told me that she gave me a +1 because she knew how much the drive would stress me out and she wanted me there. This is just one example of the true, generous, caring friend Leanne was. 
In our younger years, we bonded over a love of reading - especially Harry Potter. We were true crime fans before the concept of “true crime fans” existed. I remember sleeping over once and talking about Jaycee Dugard’s book pretty late into the night. A book that Leanne insisted I borrow, because I didn’t have a copy of my own. 
We shared similar career goals and both went into special education. Despite cancer derailing her plans to become a special education teacher, Leanne was so proud of my career and accomplishments. That means so much to me. 
Leanne was so loved by so many. She was an incredible mom to Henry and often said that she had to be upbeat and strong during her cancer journey for Henry. She fought so hard to be on this earth as long as she could for him. This tribute doesn’t do Leanne justice, but she deserves to be remembered, even if my words are imperfect. 
In the words of a camp song we sang together hundreds of times… catch a shooting star for me, Leanne.

June 2018. She surprised me with a trip to Palm Springs for my birthday. She booked an air bnb that we were supposed to have the whole house and pool to ourselves but the owner was there and creeped us both out so we cancelled early and went to a hotel instead and lounged around the pool as planned. We talked about repeating that trip again but life got in the way and time went too fast. I wish we would have had more of it.

October 2016. I think this was when we attempted to go to the Queen Mary Halloween fest but it was crazy so we decided to go out to some random bars in Long Beach.

Remembering her courage, smile and love of family and friends.

Leanne was my best friend. We met 13yrs ago at work and one road trip up to Seattle bonded us for life. She became my sister and it was like we’d known each other forever. I have so many happy memories to hold on to but my heart hurts so much with her not being here anymore. She was such a light and her laugh was infectious. I miss her and will continue to everyday. She fought an incredible battle and I’m just glad she’s no longer in pain. I know you’re dancing and singing up in Heaven Leanne. Enjoy those wings, bestie.

Leanne, you were just a baby, but I have a very fond memory of babysitting you while your mom had an event to go to. You were such an adorable sweet child. You are missed.

Leanne was such a sweet and caring person. While going to college she worked at Loma Linda University Medical Center as an Operator. She was very successful because of her great care and empathy for others. Leanne listened with her heart and went above and beyond to support others. Leanne loved children and had a passion to teach. She would not shy away from a challenge which was evident with her wish to teach children with special needs. Leanne was a wonderful person. A bright and beautiful woman who made a positive difference in lives of those who knew her. She will be missed.  My sincerest condolences to her family.

Leanne was a genuine friend. We became buddies in the same 5th grade class. Though we were only classmates for one year we stayed pen pals for many years after and met occasionally. Long before Leanne’s diagnosis I named my daughter after her because I loved the spirit of her name and all her wonderful qualities. I never told her that. 
Her light shines on through her friends and loved ones. My thoughts are with her family.

Leanne you were my sons fist ABA tutor and the light you shined each time you came in to our home was something that no one ever had! Thank you for having a hand in his early days.

I was deeply saddened to hear about Leanne's passing. We may not have been close in recent years, but they were an important part of my life at one time, and I’ll always carry those memories with me. She left this world far too young. Sending love and strength to everyone who cared about them.
