Lovell Hoxie, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, entered into eternal rest on August 10, 2025. She was born on May 25, 1950, in Indio, California, to the late Willie and Willie Mae Roberson.
In 1979, Lovell married the love of her life, Wayne A. Hoxie. Together they built a family filled with faith, love, and joy. She was the devoted mother of Zelray Maleek Sims and Tamara “Crista” Hoxie, and loving stepmother to Wayne Hoxie II. She was preceded in death by her dear sister, Esther Henderson, and is survived by her brother-in-law Jimmy Henderson of Little Rock, Arkansas.
Lovell cherished her role as a grandmother and poured her heart into her grandchildren: Paul and Percy “Mister” Sewell, Justyn, London, Miles, and Max Hoxie, and granddaughter Tia Moreno. She also leaves behind her beloved goddaughter, Marcella Brison.
Education was important to her, and she earned an associate's degree from the University of California, Riverside. Professionally, she worked as an administrative assistant, steadily advancing to become an executive assistant from 2000 until her retirement in 2009.
Lovell’s deepest devotion was to her faith and her music. As an avid churchgoer and lifelong member of the Church of God in Christ, she used her extraordinary gift of song to bless congregations and inspire hearts. She began her service at Mission Church of God in Christ in Banning, California, where she sang in the choir. She later became a member of Saint James Church of God in Christ in Riverside, where she led the Praise Team and also sang with the St. James District Choir and the San Bernardino Regional Choir. Known as an anointed soloist, her voice lifted countless spirits. Lovell later worshiped at Pillar of Faith Church of God in Christ in Riverside and, most recently, at Cathedral of Praise International Ministries.
Lovell will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her radiant spirit, and her beautiful voice that brought joy and comfort to so many. Her legacy of love, music, and devotion will live on in her family and all who knew her.
A visitation for Lovell will be held Monday, August 25, 2025 from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Montecito Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3520 E Washington St, Colton, CA 92324. Following the visitation will be a committal service from 1:45 PM to 2:15 PM at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside, CA 92518.
Remember Me
To the living, I am gone,
To the sad, I will never return.
To the angry, I was cheated,
But to the happy, I am at peace
And to the faithful, I have never left.
I cannot speak, but I can listen.
I cannot be seen, but my presence can be felt.
I can no longer lead, but I can walk beside you.
So as you stand gazing at a beautiful sunset
or the moon in its endless sky,
As you look in wonder at the colors of a rose
or listen to the song of a bird,
Remember me.
Remember me in your heart,
in your thoughts, and in your memories.
Remember the times we loved,
The times we fought,
The times we laughed,
And the times we cried,
The times we teased
And the times we shared.
For if you think of me,
I will not have died.
I have only gone with Jesus.
