

MANUEL ESPINOSA Age 73, a resident of Redlands, CA, formerly of Colton for 1 year, Loma Linda for 27 years, and Redlands 45 years, passed away on July 6, 2010, at Loma Linda University Medical Center, due to a head injury from a fall outside his home. He was born in Corona, CA, in 1937, along the Santa Ana River, until the flood of 1938 forced the family to move to Loma Linda. He was raised at the family business of La India Pottery Shop on Redlands Blvd. in Loma Linda (still operating). He attended Mission Elementary School in Redlands, and Redlands Junior High School. He graduated from Redlands High School in 1955, where he played football, and was Commissioner of Athletics. He was a member of the Army Reserves out of Ford Ord from 1955-1959. He attended San Bernardino Valley College for 2 years while working at the Canada Dry Bottling Co. in San Bernardino. He received his Bachelors degree in 1960 from the University of Redlands, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Sigma Fraternity. Manuel taught 6th grade at Smiley and Spanish at Redlands Junior High School, and Moore Junior High in the 1960's. He received his Masters in School Administration from the University of Redlands in 1972. He was a Counselor at Moore Junior High in the early 1970's, and was the Principal at McKinley, Crafton, Forest Falls, and Cram Elementary School for over 20 years. He retired in 2000 as Vice Principal of Lugonia Elementary School after over 30 years in the Redlands Unified School District. He was a board member at the YMCA of Redlands in the 1970's and 80's and a board member at the Boys and Girls Club of Redlands. He was a Parishioner and Eucharistic Minister at Sacred Heart Church (Holy Name of Jesus) for 40 years. Manuel Bowled in various teachers leagues at Empire Bowl in Redlands for 40 years. He enjoyed fishing in the summer in the Sierra Nevadas with friends, Stan and Mary Harshman of Redlands, and Sharon and David Regalado of Redlands. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Elizabeth Espinosa of Redlands, CA; brothers, Bill Espinosa of Yucaipa, Paul Espinosa of Redlands, and Chris Espinosa of Grand Terrace; sister, Helen Pierce of Redlands; sons, Chris Espinosa of San Jose, CA, and Mark Espinosa of Riverside, CA. Memorial Service: Friday, July 16, 2010, 10 A.M. at Holy Name of Jesus (Sacred Heart), Redlands, CA - Reception immediately following in adjacent hall.
