Mary Miles Hunt died on June 11, 2026, at the age of 78. She was born on the fourth of July in 1947 to parents, Evelyn and Vincent Miles, in Los Angeles. She had three cherished siblings, John, Julie, and Franny.
She married her high school sweetheart, Jim, in 1967. Together, they settled in Grand Terrace and raised four sons, Robert, Daniel, Andrew, and Jonathan. Mary was a tireless champion of physical rehabilitation and was a founding member of the Robert H. Ballard Rehabilitation Hospital in San Bernardino. A proud nurse since 1969, Mary helped successfully establish “Ballard Rehab” and furthered the hospital’s success as the facility’s COO and eventually its CEO, completing her tenure of 54 years. Even in retirement, Mary maintained close contact with the hospital and the many people she mentored over the years. Her lifelong compassion and commitment to health care stand as her greatest professional accomplishment.
Mary loved gardening, the ocean, and spending time with her family, especially her sweet grandchildren, Sydney, Amber, Evelyn, and Nathaniel.
She was a quick-wit, known for her slightly mischievous sense of humor, her tremendous generosity, endless energy, and eternal optimism. She never failed to talk about how lucky she was to have such a devoted and loving husband and kind and independent (and tall!) sons.
Her Celebration of Life will be held on July 12, 2026, at 1 pm at The Fox Event Center in Redlands, CA.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the American Red Cross.
