August 24, 2004 – December 30, 2024
It is with profound sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Matthew "Machu" Enriquez, who left this world far too soon on December 30, 2024, at the age of 20. Born in Camarillo, California, on August 24, 2004, Machu’s light shone brightly and touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
Machu is lovingly remembered by his devoted mother, Imelda Moya; his partner in crime and best friend, Yoshi (his service dog); his cherished siblings, Oscar, Stephanie, and Elena; his adoring grandparents, Mary Peña and Ricardo Moya; his Ninos, Juan, Rick, and Markie; his Nina, Eiran; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends—each of whom was part of his extended family.
From a young age, Machu’s spirit was marked by boundless kindness, an infectious smile, and a heart overflowing with love. Whether he was playing sports, immersed in his favorite video games, or adventuring at Disneyland, he embraced life with a contagious enthusiasm. His passion for fitness, combined with his entrepreneurial dreams, led him to envision a future as a social media influencer, eager to share his experiences and positive outlook with the world.
Machu’s presence was impossible to ignore. He moved through life with a vibrant energy that captivated everyone around him. He led with compassion, grace, and an unwavering commitment to forgiveness. His positivity was a guiding light to all who encountered him, and he had an extraordinary ability to make people feel seen, valued, and loved.
In 2021, Machu’s life took an unimaginable turn when he was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer. The diagnosis was devastating, but Machu’s spirit remained unshaken. He faced his treatment with the same resilience, determination, and strength that he demonstrated in every other aspect of his life. After an intense battle, he went into remission, though the road to recovery was far from easy.
Over the following years, Machu faced setbacks, complications, and countless challenges as he fought to reclaim his health. Yet, despite the pain, uncertainty, and fear of relapse, he never wavered in his resolve to stay strong. His mantra was simple, yet powerful: “I got this!” This phrase became a symbol of his unbreakable will and determination. No matter the hardship, Machu faced each day with unwavering confidence, convinced that he could overcome whatever came his way.
Even as his body grew weary, Machu’s resolve remained steadfast. His courage and resilience were extraordinary—he refused to let his illness define him. His journey was a testament to the power of hope, and he became a source of inspiration for many, showing others that love and perseverance could light the darkest of paths.
Throughout it all, Machu stayed true to himself. He focused on kindness, positivity, and living each day to the fullest, even in the face of adversity. His unwavering will to live, combined with the deep love he had for his family and friends, carried him through some of his darkest days.
Though Machu’s time with us was far too short, his legacy of love, strength, and perseverance will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew him. His story is one of a young man who faced unimaginable challenges with a smile, a positive spirit, and a steadfast belief that kindness and love could change the world.
Machu’s family finds solace in knowing that his light will continue to shine in their lives—and in the lives of all who carry his memory forward. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
A visitation for Machu will be held Friday, January 17, 2025 from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Montecito's Valley View Chapel, 3520 E Washington St, Colton, CA 92324.
