Rey graduated from Philippine Union College, now the Adventist University of the Philippines in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. This is where he met his future wife, Loida Yulo. They married on April 1, 1958 and were about to celebrate their 65th anniversary this month.
They were blessed with two children. Their daughter Eileen Claveria Killeen married to Dr. Timothy Killeen. They have three sons, Shaun, Ian, and Hayden. In April of 1958 he took a position at the Philippine Publishing House and married Loida. In 1964 he worked as chief accountant and associate auditor for the North Philippine Union Mission in Pasay City. In 1965 the Canadian Embassy opened immigration to Canada and Rey applied for and was approved for a job in Toronto, Canada where he worked as an accountant for a manufacturing company called Noma Lites. The freezing winters were brutal and Rey wanted to move to the U.S. for warmer weather. He decided to attend night school and earned his certificate in computer programming. The United States needed computer programmers at that time so he applied and was approved for work. In 1968, the family moved to Glendale, California and Rey held a position as Controller for a chain of hospitals in Los Angeles county for the rest of his career. Upon retirement, he established his own private accounting service for small businesses and tax preparation and did this until he was 88 years old.
Through retirement, Rey and Loida were able to travel to the Mediterranean countries, the Baltics, England, the Caribbean, Central America, and the Philippines. They lived in Loma Linda for 35 years and recently moved to Murrieta to be closer to their daughter and family in the last year.
