Rosario Rios Hernandez was born on June 12, 1925, in Downey Ca, to Jose and Sara Rios, the second born and first girl of eight children: John, Francis, Virginia, Tonia, Josephine, Nellie, and Jerry. She began working at 15, with various jobs which included traveling to Northern California to help support her six younger siblings. Rose lived in South Colton with her family, where she met her future husband Pete, and married after WWII. They moved to Los Angeles where Pete pursued higher education while Rose went to work, and they had two boys, Michael and Bobby. Pete finished his degree and they moved to South Colton, where they completed their family with their third child, Marianne and settled lovingly in North Colton. Rose was raised as a member of the San Salvador Catholic Church, and she supported the Veterans of Foreign Wars by becoming a member of the Women’s Auxiliary where she took the role as the Patriotic Instructor for the VFW POST 6476. She donated over 20 years of time, care and service to their cause. Rose continued to work for the Citrus Packing House until she retired, and her husband retired from the DMV. During her life, Rose and her husband Pete were blessed with 5 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. Rose had been married for over 70 years to her adoring husband Pete, who survives her. She was preceded in death by her son Michael.
Rose “Chayo” was a very strong-willed patriotic, independent woman and she fiercely instilled these morals and values within her family. Rose's selfless work ethic resonates in her uncompromising personality. She shared her life experiences and rich history with her beloved family. She remained strong and dignified until her last day. She will be greatly missed, and always deeply loved.
