I will miss G'ma Eunice. Her love, concern, and support of her family was a beautiful example from an amazing daughter of God. I married into the family yet she always treated me like one of her own grandchildren. I love you Eunice and look forward to seeing you someday on the other side.

I'm going to miss Grandma Eunice so much. She was so amazing and wonderful and I wish I had known her better. I remember staying at her house when we went on vacation. I remember her three cats Bobby, Boots and Callie. I wish we could've gotten to know each other better. I know we'll see her again someday and I will cherish every moment of it.

When I was in 6th grade, we went on a trip to California. It was special because it was the first time I went to Disneyland. We were going to stay at Grandma Eunice's house while we were in California.
I remember the night/morning we arrived at her house, I was only 11 and so tired from the 12-hour ride from Salt Lake City, Utah to Grand Terrace, Cali. I lugged my bag to the front door of Grandma's house. She answered the door with the biggest smile on her face, making me forget being tired and weary.
I didn't get to see her that much since we lived in two different states, but when I did, it would always be an experience that I can only describe as light and joy.
Bye Grandma, I love you.

Grandma was a very sweet and positive person who had a great love for her family, pets, country and the natural world (especially birds and flowers).

G'ma always took us in with a kiss, smile and hug.  Every time we came over her home she would offer us anything we wanted that she had.  Especially the yummy stuff we rarely got at home.  Most importantly, we always felt at home with G'Ma Eunice.  The Utah von Pingel's will miss her.  We love you Gramma!!

I have many warm memories of Grandma. She taught me about eating scrambled eggs with ketchup and how to look for depression glass patterns at antique shops. I loved spending the night with Grandma and Grandpa during the summer because I always felt special and spoiled by Grandma. She was so generous, always trying to slip some money into my hand when I was going to college. I cherish having an A&W rootbeer with her while we watched soap operas in the afternoons after my college classes were done for the day. There was never any doubt she loved me, my siblings and parents, and my husband Todd, and our children Spencer and Hannah. Her house was a second home. My memories of my Grandmother are as warm as they are uncomplicated. I'll miss the hugs and kisses she gave me--yet, I still feel them. I'll miss her optimism, her laughter, and her heart. Thanks grandma for being the best. I love very much.

When I met Bonnie at March AFB and started dating her, I will always remember the love and kindness that I felt from her.  I will miss her laughter and love.  She was my mom for that time.  I will remember the steak dinners that were so good, I was home.  She was always forgiving and understanding.  She always loved to listen to my stories and tales of life. Mom was a very loving and caring "lady".  She was always there with a listening ear, and always willing to watch grandchildren when needed.  I will truly miss the family dinners and family gatherings at Mom and Dad's house, especially at the swimming pool!  I could always count on Mom's moral support and comfort! Mom was my favorite "pal" at home in my early years into high school. She was my cheerleader and confidant, den mother for Cubs, and resource for merit badges and school projects. When we were in Germany during my high school years, she made sure I was exposed to the culture of Europe through art galleries and concerts. The two of us went to the Brussels World's Fair (1958) for three glorious days - seeing Benny Goodman and Sophia Loren (already a star) in person, and of course, Sputnik, the prize Russian exhibit.

In Mom's later years, after I started taking piano, I entertained her in her living room with my recital pieces from Schumann, Chopin, and Grieg. I chose my time wisely, when Don or Erin were not around, so I could be the big cheese on the keyboard. She responded extremely well to my pieces, and actually requested one of them over and over whenever I visited. This gave me great joy. She has been my role model for aging gracefully, never complaining, no matter what the circumstances. I love her very much.

Remembering Rose Eunice

This week I've been thinking about her and all the family and feeling very grateful to be part of such a loving group of people. I've been remembering all the wonderful things about Grandma, her cheery disposition, sweet smile and lovely laugh. She loved to sing so much that even when she was talking it often sounded like singing! Her love for animals was wonderful and I'm grateful for the roots it planted in my own life. Visiting Grandma always made me smile and often laugh. Her enchantment with Englebert Humperdink's captivating live performance left me speechless. And hypnotized myself, that guy really owns the stage!

I'm grateful for recently having had the opportunity to spend more time with Grandma while living in nearby LA. And I was always eager to hear her stories about what it was like to grow up in the city when it was so romantically brand new. Her story about living next to Mrs. See and the candy lady's penchant for driveway archery was priceless. As I am a fan of love and public transportation, I often recounted to my fellow Angeleno residents about my Grandma's stories of riding the street car around Hollywood and how one day when my Grandpa got on, she "almost fell off".

I'll always remember her generous and kind spirit. The last time I visited her with my Dad in December, we sang songs together while Cali lounged near her feet. She is a lovely beauty and I'll always remember her for her brilliance in doing so. Her love is her children's love and her children's children's love, and so forward, for which I am endlessly grateful.

I am Eunice's son-in-law.  I have always wondered how Eunice was able to keep such a positive attitude in spite of her many health problems in recent times.  I believe her positive attitude was the result of some very strong passions in her life.

The first and strongest passion was her love for her family. Nothing made her happier than visits from family members. If you have been to the house on Holly Street you might remember the large dinning table.  It was filled with pictures of the family and if you were going to eat you had to clear off all those pictures first. In fact, the entire house was filled with family pictures.

Just four days before she passed on, she was visited by her three nieces,Stacy, Terre and Shellie.  Eunice loved seeing them and even though she was starting to fade by then, she sang them a song, "God Bless America".
Two days before she passed she sang a song to the doctor before she left the hospital.  This leads to another of her great passions.  She loved music and would sing at the drop of a hat.  

Eunice spent the last 18 months living at Emeritus, an assisted living facility here in Grand Terrace. A short time after she moved in they started to call her "the singing lady". because she so loved to sing.  Merilee and I would sing songs with her whenever we called on the phone or visited her. She kept us on the ball because if we were going to sing with Eunice we'd better jolly well know all the lyrics and tunes.

Another great passion for Eunice was her patriotism.  You would always see the American Flag flying in front of her house.  Since she loved to sing, of course she loved all the patriotic songs. She had one favorite, "Yankee Doodle Dandy".  There is a line in the song that goes:"born on the Fourth of July". Eunice was born on the third of July so whenever she sang "Yankee Doodle" she changed the words to "born on the third of July.

Something to ponder - Eunice's husband Tom passed away on June 14, 1995, Flag Day.  Eunice passed away on June 14, 2012, also Flag Day.

This I know, from now on we will always make sure our flag is up on June 14 as a tribute to Tom, Eunice and America, and we will fly it on the third and fourth of July. 

Eunice will always be our "Yankee Doodle Dandy" a very special and well loved lady.

My sweet little "Mutie", a term of endearment since our days in Germany.

She was a beautiful rose, perpetually blossoming~
She was giving: cub scouts, girl scouts, Red Cross;

She was talented: knitted baby clothes, sewed Halloween costumes,
made dance recital costumes. Later she knitted beautiful afghans and created needlepoints.

She was amazingly organized: packing, unpacking a complete household and three children every 3 years, making us a warm, loving home.

She thrived and blossomed, when upon Dad's retirement from the Air Force, she finally had a permanent home to furnish with antiques, treasures from travels, plant rose gardens and fruit trees, enjoy the birds, and her beloved cats and dog.

Then when she lost our dad, her "Tommy," she relied upon us children for comfort and support. But with a song in her heart, she carried on graciously.

Her beautiful spirit truly inspired us when she needed to move one more time into assisted living. She was positive, compassionate, accepting; singing everyday, sharing her joy, inspiring her caregivers and her children with her dignity, loving kindness, always with a song.

Just like one of her favorite movies, "It's a Wonderful Life," she would say she had a wonderful life, and it was "wunderbar!"

Mutie, you have been a precious gift to us. I shall miss you terribly and love you forever. Your daughter, Merilee

Grandma has taught me what it is to have joy in life. I will always remember her focusing on all that is good and positive in all of us and in the world. I will truly miss her.

I remember my Aunt Enice always in her garden working in the flower beds. I always loved her garden, playing at their house,our trip to Texas to visit. All our family holiday gatherings as children. There was always acard or a telephone call on our birthday. The songs she sang to the three of us girls our last visit with her. So very special..I will miss her

     My fondest memories of Aunt Eunice are of how much she loved family.  She was always so happy to see us wether we just dropped by or were visiting for an event.  Aunt Eunice always remembered our birthdays, either with a card or a phone call.  She was so sweet that way.
      She loved us and we loved her.  My last visit with Aunt Eunice was especially precious as she sang to us with love in her heart.

Eunice was my Aunt and growing up I have such fond memories of our family gatherings at her and Uncle Tommy's house in Colton or at my parents house.  Aunt Eunice loved us all and I will always cherish my last visit with her.
