Sharon Lucille Harper

Her Childhood

On October 11, 1950, in Loma Linda, CA, a beautiful baby girl was born to Mildred Lucille Bailey-Isaac and William Hermon Isaac. A sweet bundle of joy they named her Sharon Lucille Isaac. Sharon was the tenth child born to her parents. Her siblings included: James, Mary, Herbert, Mildred, William Jr., Carol, Martha, Janice and Janet.

Her Love Story

She fell in love and married her childhood sweetheart, Eddie L. Harper on March 21, 1970 in San Bernardino, California, proudly becoming Sharon L. Harper. She had no greater love than her family. They welcomed three beautiful children, her oldest, Marcus Christian Harper, her genius, Eddie Leon Harper, and her only girl, Sharon Celeste Harper-Logan. Family was everything to her. Shopping trips with her sister Janice, family vacations to her brother Herbert’s, all day phone calls with her sister Martha, lessons from her sister Carol, Sabbath afternoon visits with her sister Mary, girls night out with her niece Yvonne and having dinner with her niece Cassandra delighted her. She loved being a Grandmother. She insisted spending every vacation with her grandchildren: Jemel, Kai, Isaiah, Natahniel and Mathew. She often included her great nieces and nephews on her spontaneous family excursions.

Her Salvation

At a young age Sharon accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized into the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Growing up in San Bernardino, CA, she was a member of the K Street Seventh Day Adventist Church (later becoming the 16th Street Seventh Day Adventist Church) until transferring her membership to Oakwood College Seventh Day Adventist Church in Huntsville, AL. Her character was a testament of her belief in salvation, redemption, faith and forgiveness.

Her Passion

Graduating from Cal State San Bernardino, Sharon received two Bachelors of Arts and a Master’s of Science degree from Alabama A&M University. She worked as a probation officer in San Bernardino County until she moved to Huntsville, AL. She became a Guidance Counselor at Oakwood Academy, where she touched and changed numerous lives. While working at Oakwood she assisted students receiving endless amounts of scholarships, paid internships and career plans. In the late 1980’s and early 1990’s she became a science teacher for the Huntsville City Schools system. She later accepted a teaching position at Campbell High School in Smyrna, GA. Understanding how to relate to youth in the community wasn’t just a gift, it was her ministry. From taking her biology class snorkeling in the Keys, or sailing in the Pacific Ocean for a lesson on climate change, to bringing a real life 240 gallon salt water fish tank ecosystem to the classroom. To date her students still talk about the impact she had on their lives. Before retiring in 2017, her contribution to the success and growth of the award winning Horticulture Program at Campbell High School was one of her favorite professional accomplishments. Her passion for teaching was unprecedented.
