Solomon attended Northeast Luzon Academy (NELA) and Northern Luzon Academy (NLA), graduating high school before the age of 15. He then attended Philippine Union College (PUC, now known as Adventist University of the Philippines/AUP) and Mountain View College, eventually graduating from University of the East Dental School in 1967. Emigrating to the United States in 1970, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1973, retiring honorably in 1994 with the rank of Sergeant First Class in the Army’s Dental Corps.
Solomon is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Celia; his daughter Cielo Ico Starostanko, son-in-law Timothy Starostanko; grandsons Solomon Cai and Sol Constantine Ico Starostanko; youngest sibling, Neria Ico Minimo, brother-in-law Ruben Minimo, nephews Marc and Mikey Minimo; brother-in-law Clarito Alfonso; nephews and nieces Marvin Alfonso, Melanie (Alfonso) Omnn, Erwin (Django) Ico, Olive (Ico) Viduya, Edmon Ico, Sharon (Ico) Dykstra; many more cousins, nephews, nieces and extended family. The third of four children, he was preceded in death by his older brother, David (1981); parents, Pastor Nemesio (1987) and Mrs. Gregoria Ico (1986), and eldest sister, Lilia Ico Alfonso (2017).
He was a loving son and brother, dedicated husband and father, doting grandfather and loyal friend whose kindness and generosity were limited only by what he could give and do.
The family will greet friends from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on December 12, 13 and 14, Valley View Chapel, Montecito Memorial Park. Memorial Service will be held December 15, 2019, 11:00 in the morning, at the Loma Linda Filipino Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 11180 New Jersey Street, Redlands, CA 92373. Burial will follow at Montecito Memorial Park, 3520 E. Washington Street, Colton, CA 92324.
