Stanford Williams Jr. was born January 1, 1937 in Bolivar County, Mississippi to the late Lillie B. and Stanford Williams Sr. Stan was the second child of eight siblings. The family relocated to St. Louis, MO when Stan was at the age of two or three. Stan under the guidance of his parents attended Carter A. M. E. Church where he was baptized. He was a boy scout and attended high school at Hadley Technical School. Stan joined the Marine Corp at a young age and served in Korea. He later completed his undergraduate studies at a college in the St. Louis area after his honorable discharge from the military.
Stan moved to Chicago where he pursued his career in real estate. He became a broker and one of his earlier home sales was to his good friends Ordley (Smitty) and Cecile Smith. Stan met and married Sandra and Lisa Marie was born to that union. He later met and married Betty and to that union Lynda and Kymberley was born. Finally Stan married Ruby on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1993 and they remained together until he passed away on August 25, 2014.
Stan was known as Stan, Stanley, Stanford and Poboy. Poboy was his favorite nickname and he chose it for his personalized license plate. Stan loved bowling which he enjoyed for many years until his health began to fail. He also enjoyed “going up the hill” to meet with his poker buddies at San Manuel.
Stan was predeceased by his parents Lillie and Stanford Sr., his brother Edward, granddaughter Ashley, and great granddaughter Ashiana. Stan leaves to mourn his memory his wife Ruby; sisters Jessie Harris, Paulette Alford, Marie Richardson, and Winnie Stewart; brothers Melvin Williams (Margaret) and Andrew Williams; daughters Lisa Williams, Lynda Wogu (Enic), Kymberly Cotton (Dale); step sons Jamol Stewart, Tarik Stewart (Tricia); grandchildren Jeffery Gibson, London Wogu, Ellington Wogu, and Kaleb Cotton and a host of cousins, nephews and nieces. A special thanks to his godson Lencho who faithfully visited and attended to Stan during his final days at the nursing home.
Stanford will a a Memorial Service on Friday, August 29, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Montecito Mortuary in the Valley View Chapel, Colton, California.
