It is with great sadness that the family of Anthony (Tony) Joseph Pierro Jr. announce his passing on July 9, 2022, at the age of 72. He peacefully passed in his home in Columbia, MD. surrounded by family.
He was born in Baltimore, MD. on October 04, 1949. Son of the late Anna Delores (Powell) Pierro and Anthony Joseph Pierro Sr.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Connie S. (Welch) Pierro; two daughters Laurie Prozeller of Columbia, MD; Kelly (Larry) Stoner of Glen Burnie, MD; and a son Bobby Shifflett (Richa) of Columbia, MD; ten grandchildren: Brian, Aaron, Caitlyn, Brandon, Madison, Connor, Sareah , Mike, Jason, Ethan; two great grandchildren Victoria and Ryker; stepmother of 31 years Wanda L. (Clingerman) Pierro of McKinney TX; lifelong best friend Al Conover; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.
While residing in the Hammond Village area of Laurel, MD, he graduated from Atholton High School located in Columbia where he met his wife. Most of his employment career was spent in the manufacturing sector. He was heavily involved with the creation and production of commercial building materials. His determination and strong will led him to positions of leadership where he trained and guided others.
From an early age, he had an intergalactic wanderlust; most likely sparked by his father’s illustrious career working at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. Tony’s natural fascination with celestial bodies combined with his father’s influence made him an extreme fan of a show called Dr. Who. His family and friends now picture him touring galaxies in his own personal Tardis (a telephone transport booth). From the stars above, he continues guarding us.
He is known as “TJ”, “Pappy”, and “Tony Pizza” by his family and friends. He was an avid nature and animal lover. His favorite pastimes included long hikes at Browns Bridge, investigating paranormal phenomena, and spoiling numerous personal pets and natural wildlife. Even after his passing, animals he cared for from the comfort of his front porch still appear hoping to receive his care.
He was a classic rock music aficionado. If you ever rode shotgun in his van or car, then you had a front seat view of a personal concert with him passionately playing the air drums and guitar.
As he grew into his older years, his support for family never ceased. He was the sole caretaker of his wife Connie for over ten years. His dedication never faulted.
A receiving of friends for Anthony will be held Tuesday, July 26, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Witzke Funeral Homes Inc., 5555 Twin Knolls Road, Maryland 21045, followed by a memorial service at 6:00 PM.
