Aurora Lou Cooke Trigg passed away peacefully at home on November 5, 2019, surrounded by family at the age of 88. Aurora is survived by her daughters, Shari Jenell Trigg of Columbia, Maryland, and Aurora Jacquese Trigg of Melbourne, Florida; her grandchildren, Jacquillia J.M. Hooper, Juan G. Thomas and J’nez A. Thomas; and great-grandchildren, Jache’ S. Thomas, Cheyenne S. Hooper and Nyla S. Hooper.

Aurora was born on May 19, 1931, in Halifax County, Virginia, the only surviving child of Lucy B. Carrington Cooke and Otis Cooke. Aurora earned her Bachelor of Science degree from West Virginia State University in 1953 and a Master of Science from Morgan State University in 1974. She had a zest for life, learning and public service. She pledged Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., a Public Service Sorority, while in college and was a Charter member of Columbia MD Alumnae Chapter. Aurora chaired the Science Department at Walbrook Senior High School in Baltimore, Maryland for almost 40 years and dominated the racquetball court in her 40s and 50s. She was the Maryland State Women’s Class B Champion in 1978. Aurora traveled the world and upon retirement in 2008, traveled extensively with her daughter S. Jenell. Their adventures from Las Vegas to Paris always included good food, champagne, and laughter. She loved her family, friends, Sorority, and WVSU. Aurora was one of a kind and is much loved; she will be missed by many.

Her ‘Celebration of Life’ will be held on Friday, November 22, 2019, at 2:00 pm at the Slayton House at 10400 Cross Fox Lane in the Wilde Lake Village Center, Columbia, Maryland, 21044. In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate contributions to the Aurora Lou Cooke Trigg Scholarship Fund to benefit African American women majoring in the sciences.
