Lieutenant Colonel Bruce Donaldson MacLean, the son of Donald Robertson MacLean and Elsie Perrin MacLean, died on October 29, 2018. He is survived by sons Donald Robert and Steven Bruce, his daughter-in-law Cheryl, and his granddaughter Kayleigh, who was the joy of his life. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 52 years, Lynda Blackmon MacLean.
Lieutenant Colonel MacLean was born in Pawtucket Rhode Island in 1935. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1957 with a bachelor degree in business administration and a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Lieutenant Colonel MacLean served in the army for 28 years in numerous units to include the 37th Armor, and 3rd and 24th Infantry Divisions in Germany, and the 25th Infantry Division in Vietnam. He graduated from the United States Army Command and General Staff College in 1971 and spent two years with the Joint United States Military Mission to Turkey during 1971 – 1973. Upon completion of his military career in 1985, he worked as the Assistant Manager of the Driver Licensing Division of the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration until December 31, 2000.
He enjoyed walking, exploring and taking photographs and spent many vacations in his younger years in Germany, France, Spain, Italy, and Turkey. More recently, he enjoyed photographing the castles in Great Britain, searching for moose in Maine, and exploring the National Parks of the western U.S. He loved sports and his favorite teams were the Boston Red Sox and the New York Giants. He and his wife, Lynda, were huge indoor soccer fans and supported the Baltimore Blast soccer team. More than anything, he treasured spending time with his family.
