Cleo fell asleep in the Lord on September 15, 2020 at the age of 73 in Columbia, Maryland, after a short illness. She was born in Riverside, California, the daughter of the late Almon and Shirley Caird. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Constantine (Gus) N. Karafas; sister, Drucilla Fox (Larry); sister-in-law, Irene Voneiff (George); niece, Jennifer Fanning (Shane); nephew, George Voneiff (Kerry); three great-nephews; cousins and friends. Cleo grew up in Tampa, Florida. She moved to Washington, DC in the late 60's and worked in the travel industry for many years. She was married to Gus at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Washington, DC where she also joined and became Greek Orthodox. Cleo and Gus lived in Columbia, Maryland for 40 years. Cleo loved to travel and visited many places all over the world. One of her greatest joys were her exotic birds, Max, Jake, Rex, and Sunshine. She loved collecting and was an active member of the local Hallmark Ornament Clubs.
