Very Sad to hear the news that Mr. Shump has passed away. My thoughts go out to his Husband, family and friends. I had Mr. Shump twice for english class at NCHS. He was a very dedicated teacher. I respect to this day the way he had structured his classes. He was very organized and there was no question as to when you were going to have a quiz, test, ect. I loved how sassy he could be at times and admired how he would never back down from a bull headed student. His class wasn’t easy but it’s one that to this day I look back fondly on. I’m embarrassed to even say this but I remember when he hurt his arm I want to say during a snow storm and was out for an extended time, me and my friends goofed off and had a blast. When he came back he pulled us aside and told us how miserable our grades were. He was right, it was pathetic. But he offered us the opportunity to stay after and try and bring the grade up. I remember going from a E to a B. He cared, he saw potential in every student. I hope his loved ones know how gifted they were to have this man in their life. Hope you can find peace in all the beautiful memories Mr Shump brought to everyone’s lives. 

Mr. Shump was my favorite teacher at NCHS, I'm not saying that because he passed away, it was true 10 years ago and to this day. I aided for him and wrote him a letter for Teacher Appreciation day my senior year and he said it was the first one he'd ever received. He was a genuinely kind person who was misunderstood by most of the kids we went to school with. This breaks my heart, my condolences to his partner and to his family. 

Jason Shump

Jason was a dedicated teacher and one who spent a lot of time and energy for  his students.  He knew what he was doing and how to get there.

He was one of the few people who understood education and had a healthy and realistic view of the system.  He was never afraid to share his thoughts (which I agreed with), even if others did not agree.

I enjoyed his quirky attitude and will  really miss him.

Mr. Shump was probably one of the most difficult teachers I ever had. The result of that was he made me work harder, learn better and I actually paid attention when we were doing our required reading. The world has lost an extremely gifted teacher and I'm sure will be missed by many. 

Mr. Shump is forever my best friend and favorite teacher.  Mr. Shump is not just a teacher, but a hero. Anyone who ever comes up to me and questions my middle school experience, they’re immediately bombarded with stories about me and and Mr. Shump. I had the opportunity to have Mr. Shump not once, but twice during middle school and I wouldn’t trade that for the world. Every paragraph and every essay I write has never failed me since. My only reason for going to school sometimes was just because I knew I had Mr. Shump’s class. Some people ask me why I enjoyed middle school more than high school.. It’s because Mr.Shump.  My favorite memory (..I made sure to make tons while I could) was in 7th Grade when I told everybody that it was Mr. Shump’s birthday and it really wasn’t. Every single class period that day had sung happy birthday to him and even some extras on the side. Of course Mr. Shump probably pinpointed it was me but the fun was there. I got him a class zhu zhu pet and I even got Mr. Degraff to send a Happy Birthday email. It’s such a privilege that I had the chance of being taught by not only Mr. Shump, but by his husband, Mr. Lecompte as well. Thank you Mr. Shump, I haven’t gotten anything below an A in English since. 

My son was one of Mr. Shump’s 7th grade students at CBMS. I emailed and texted Mr. Shump about my son’s progress. He was very attentive and I felt very confident that he was my son’s teacher this year.  We are very saddened and shocked at the sudden death of Mr. Shump. We offer many Prayers and Sympathy to family and friends.
