

Douglas Raymond Mays, 73, of Dayton, MD, passed away April 11, 2012. He is predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Joyce Ann Miller Mays and survived by his daughter Valerie Mays Kline and husband Richard, and grandchildren Cara, Cole, and Georgia of Columbia; Mark D. Mays and wife Rebecca, and grandchildren Claire and Noah of Ellicott City; and was predeceased by daughter Jennifer Lynn. Doug is also survived by Walter Mays and wife Libby; sister-in-law Jean Mays; Rebecca Whitelock and husband Raymond; Reba Laramy and husband Robert; Steve Mays and wife Jane; Sandra Marr and husband Russell; Sue Mott and husband Chester; and is predeceased by brothers Russell H. and Frank H. Mays. He is also blessed to have numerous brother and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Doug served on active duty in the United States Marine Corps and the Marine Corps reserves. He retired from State Farm Insurance Companies after 47 years with 37 years as an Agent. Doug was a past president of the Columbia Rotary Club and served his community in numerous leadership and philanthropic roles to include being a founding member of the Howard County Police Foundation. He was also a Master Mason of the Willow's Sons' Lodge No. 60.
The family will receive visitors at Witzke Funeral Home, Columbia, MD, on Sunday, April 15 from 2-4 and 6-8. Funeral services will be held at Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Highland, MD, on Monday, April 16 where he was a long time member. Burial will immediately follow at Columbia Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family is accepting donations to the Mount Zion UMC building fund.
