Elizabeth was born July 27, 1924, to Gabriel and Katina (Ioannides) Sideropoulos in Baltimore, MD. Her father later changed the family surname to Gabriel. Elizabeth and her family were members of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation in Baltimore. On November 19, 1945, Elizabeth married Melvin Duklewski who had recently returned from serving in the Pacific in WWII.
Elizabeth and Melvin raised three sons in Baltimore. She was a small business woman. She owned a Baltimore corner grocery store with Melvin, then Prestige Advertising in Bethesda, and finally Roberts Manufacturing located in Baltimore. Elizabeth enjoyed the opera, the symphony, family and friends, and long walks in the neighborhood. In her later years, Elizabeth moved to Columbia to live with her son, Joe, and his family. Daily walks through the neighborhood led to many friendships. She was interested in everyone and became everyone’s Grandmom. She was loved by family, friends, and neighbors, and she loved them deeply in return. Those she is leaving behind were enriched by her presence in their lives.
Elizabeth is survived by her sons: James Duklewski (Maxine Saunders), Joseph Duklewski (Helen Gasper), and Samuel Duklewski (Toby Maginnis); former daughter-in-law, Janice Lamdin; her grandchildren: Katina (Jay), Kris (Kate), Laura, Bryan (Beth), Kristin (Matt), Anne (Luke), Drew (Ivana) and Nick (fiancée Kelly); her great-grandchildren: Alex, Sam, Carter, Reagan, Adam, Roman, Sammy, Bodi and Evy; brother James Gabriel, sister Helen Kelly, and sister-in-law Marie Rammel along with many nieces and nephews.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her former husband, Melvin Duklewski; an infant son, Melvin Samuel Duklewski; her parents; her sisters, Esther and Ann; her nephews, Bill Lynch, Michael Lynch and Jim Gabriel; a niece, Debbie Kuhn; and a daughter-in-law, Josephine Duklewski.
The family thanks Dr. Steven Diener and Gilchrist Hospice for comfort and care in life and in her passing. We thank Elizabeth’s neighbors on MSH, niece Kathy Lynch Neveu, Patti Petry, and Susan Kerbel for their support and caring as Elizabeth aged. Elizabeth’s entire family wants to acknowledge the loving home and warm care Elizabeth received from Joe, Helen, Kristin, and Matt, whose steadfast and patient loving care made Elizabeth’s final years fulfilled and pleasurable.
