Monday June 22, 2020, Elsie Buckman Chadwick of Columbia, MD passed away peacefully in her home. Beloved wife and survivor of husband Douglas Elliott Chadwick, mother of Barbara Hoopes and of sons Roger, John and Brian and wife Ginny, grandmother of Rick Hoopes, Ryan Hoopes, Erik Hoopes, Jennifer Chadwick, Courtney Chadwick, Lauren Chadwick, Chiara Chadwick, Tony Chadwick and wife Katie, Christine Chadwick, Doug Chadwick and wife Sarah, Denise Chadwick and was a great grandmother of five. Born in Caples WV on July 6th 1926 she was raised in Welch, WV, she graduated in three years from Welch High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Marshall College. She worked for the National Security Agency, taught English at High Point High School in Calverton, MD and Frankfurt Junior High School, she worked for Bellman Promotions as an antique market manager, co-owned The Two Timers consignment shop in Long Reach and was a salesperson at Sears in The Columbia Mall. She enjoyed writing poetry having been published several times, gardening, traveling with her husband, family get-togethers, throwing parties for friends and neighbors and spending time with her grandchildren in her garden. Family will receive friends at Witzke Funeral Homes, Inc., 5555 Twin Knolls Rd., Columbia, MD 21045 on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, from 10am to 12pm, where services will be held at 12pm. There will be a reception immediately after the service. Burial will follow at Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Due to gathering size limits there may be a wait to enter the building for services. Facemasks are required.
