Mrs. Grace C. Parrish (née Williams), 99, transitioned peacefully on February 10, 2026, in Laurel, Maryland. A lifelong Chicagoan and dedicated educator, Grace spent her final years in Maryland to be near her family.
Born to William Williams and Grace Tubbs, Grace was the youngest of five children. She was a woman of sharp intellect and impeccable style. Grace prioritized a healthy, active lifestyle and was a mainstay in several local bridge clubs, where she enjoyed both the strategy of the game and the company of dear friends.
Grace dedicated 32 years to the Chicago Public Schools, where she taught students at Dixon Elementary School, specializing in Gifted education and the "Great Books" program. Her own academic journey included degrees from Loyola University (B.S.), DePaul University (M.Ed.), and Chicago State University (Counseling Certificate).
Her commitment to service was vast:
· Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.: A Golden Soror inducted in 1947 to the Chicago Beta Chapter, with over 50 active years of sisterhood.
· Crerar Presbyterian Church: A 50-year member, with roles as a Deacon, Secretary, and Treasurer.
· Civic Service: A member of the League of Women Voters and a dedicated volunteer for Muscular Dystrophy and Epilepsy organizations.
An avid traveler, Grace explored Europe, Scandinavia, and the many Caribbean islands. She was the beloved wife of the late Cornelius C. Parrish and mother of the late Dr. Debra S. Parrish-Hooks.
She is survived by her son-in-law, William H. Hooks; granddaughters Mariah S. Leblanc (Andrew) and Ashley S. Hooks Williams (Kyle); and five cherished great-grandchildren, Hooks, Xavier, Kenzie, Kaden, and Colette.
