

Hannah C. Atkinson, who had resided at the Sterling Care Nursing Home Facility in Bethesda, Maryland since November 2025, transitioned into Glory on September 11, 2026. Hannah was the eldest of eleven children. Hannah was born to the late parents: Robert Troy and Victoria Baldwin Troy in Laurinburg, North Carolina on August 5, 1941. Victoria later married Jack Ellison and Hannah became his beloved daughter. Hannah received her education in the Scotland County school district.
Hannah married Rev. Willie D. Walls on August 13, 1956 in Marion, South Carolina and during their union they had six children: Sandra L. Walls, Willie Walls Jr., Jerry J. Walls, Rhonda F. Walls, Bobbie D. Walls and Victor R. Walls. Their marriage was later dissolved on May 12, 1977.
On September 16, 1986 Hannah married Harold Edward Atkinson. Harold departed this life on September 28, 2003.
Hannah loved the Lord and enjoyed being a wife, mother of six children, grandmother & great-grandmother and a member of St. Paul A.M.E Zion Church in McColl, South Carolina where she was the Sunday School Teacher for the young children class. Later, she moved to Columbia, Maryland to live with her son and daughter-in-law Victor and Sonia Walls, where she then became a member of St. John Baptist Church in Columbia, Maryland under the spiritual guidance and leadership of Senior Pastor, Rev. Dr. Robert A.F. Turner.
Hannah worked at F.W. Woolworth in Newark, NJ, Mountainside Hospital as an LPN and later in life worked as a private duty nurse, caring for varies families’ sick homebound loved ones before her retirement due to medical issues. Hannah loved reading, puzzle books, shopping, gardening, interior decorating, traveling, her volunteer services of many years at Scotland Memorial Hospital and family get togethers, especially those family Thanksgiving Holiday dinners in her home in Laurinburg, North Carolina. Folks raved about her cooking near and far. Oh, let’s not forget, her immense love for old Western Movies!
Hannah leaves to cherish her memory, her children: Sandra Walls, Willie (Cynthia) Walls Jr., Jerry (Sarah, preceded in death) Walls, Rhonda (Derrick, preceded in death) Walls-Brown, Bobbie (Dennise) Walls & Victor (Sonia) Walls, her numerous Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren and her forever Daughters-in-law: Arlette Walls & Joanne Walls.
Hannah also leaves her sisters: Vanessa Ann McLaurin, Patricia Ellison, Louise Troy and Dianna Troy. Brothers: James Daniel Ellison, James Ellison Jr., Archie Ellison, Ray Charles Ellison and Robert Troy Jr.
Along with a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews & other relatives and friends.
Hannah was preceded in death by her parents Victoria and Jack Ellison, her biological father Robert Troy, her sister Pecolia Troy-Houston, her brothers Archie Ellison, Jimmy Ellison, Edward Lee Ellison, Eddie Rencola Troy, Herbert Troy, her granddaughters Shaareem Walls, Laishah K. Holloman and her niece Nivea Ellison.
Hannah lived a good life and now she is getting her reward. She will always be remembered as a strong woman. May she now rest in peace. “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8
The memorial service for Hannah Atkinson will be held at St. John Baptist Church, 9055 Tamar Drive, Columbia, MD 21045, on October 11, 2026 at 2:00 PM
The Repast will be held at, 5496 Eaglebeak Row, Columbia, MD 21045
