

JEAN LOUISE MATEER JARVIS of Columbia died April 28, 2012 at the age of 67 after a 21 month battle with pancreatic cancer. She was predeceased by her husband of 39 years, Frederick DeCou Jarvis, her mother and father, Harry E. and Louise B. Mateer along with her brother, Kenneth. Jean is survived by her three children Michael Mateer Jarvis and wife Jennifer of Cooper City, FL; Margaret Ann Radcliffe and husband Scott of Ellicott City, MD; and Beth Louise Brouillette and husband Michael of Concord, NC. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren, a brother William H. Mateer, sisters Madeleine Grandey and Arlette Powers, and many nieces and nephews. Jean was born on January 22, 1945 in Kittanning, PA. She was a graduate of Penn State University where she met her husband Fred and majored in Rehabilitation and Social Welfare. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker, a dedicated volunteer in the church, and an avid tennis player. Jean and her family have lived in Columbia since 1969. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 11 at Witzke Funeral Home, 5555 Twin Knolls Road, Columbia, MD 21045. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 12 at Columbia Memorial Park, 12005 Clarksville Pike, Columbia, MD 21029, with a Memorial Service following at 11 a.m. at Rolling Hills Baptist Church, 11510 Johns Hopkins Road, Clarksville, MD 21029. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Gilchrist Hospice Care, 5537 Twin Knolls Road, Suite 433, Columbia, MD 21045.
