Jeanne Seifert-Counsellor was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and dedicated her life to education, family, and community. After earning her degree from Salisbury University, she served as a teacher for the Howard County Public School System for 23 years. Her passion for education was deeply influenced by her childhood experiences with her beloved aunt and uncle, inspiring her to create a learning environment where all children- particularly those who were often misunderstood- felt seen, supported, safe, and encouraged.
With the unwavering support of her loving husband, she brought learning to life in her classroom, orchestrating immersive and engaging experiences like “Dino Week,” which became legendary among her students. Her fierce compassion and loyalty extended beyond the classroom to her friends, family, and community. Never one to shy away from speaking her mind, she had a way of ensuring that all things ran smoothly—whether through curiosity, determination, or sheer force of will. Jeanne’s warmth, humor, and commanding presence left an unforgettable mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 47 years, Ronald Counsellor; her children, Ross (Vanessa), Stuart Reed (Ali), and Emily (Keith); and her beloved granddaughter, Evelyn. She also leaves behind her brother, Richard Seifert (Sharon); niece Krista Seifert; nephew Eric Seifert (Kim); great-nephews Rowen and Ethan; cousins Vicki Young, John T. Young (Annie); Lisa Henrich (Michael); uncle, Thomas Howard Metzger (Debby); as well as extended family and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene Reynold Seifert and Myra Lalide Metzger.
