Jeffrey (“Jeff”) Michael Huber passed away on October 8, 2025 at the age of 44 in Columbia, Maryland. He is survived by his older brothers Matt (46) and Chris Huber (54), his nieces Madilynn Faith-Huber and Loretta Huber, his nephew Devin Gallo, and his two beloved cats, Orange Kitty (“OK”) and Finnegan. Although both relationships had concluded at the time of his passing, he also leaves behind Stephanie Gianni and ex-wife Katie Helms who both shared a deep love and connection with Jeff.
Jeff was a truly one-of-a-kind, beautiful, loving and funny person. He was born on July 20, 1981 in St. Louis, Missouri to Meimei and Neil Huber. Early in life he developed a deep love for the family pets, and animals in particular. Attending Rossman elementary school outside St. Louis, Missouri he excelled academically, particularly in writing. Jeff possessed a rich imagination and creative spirit, and loved fiction, especially novels, TV and movies.
Between 1994 and 2000, he attended and excelled at the Mary Institute and Saint Louis Country Day School (MICDS) where he met some of his best friends in life including Will Horan, Amy Ameis, Denise Kohen, Justin Reis, Grant McKay, Ryan Hardy and many others. In April 2000 he played a major role of “Jem” in the MICDS production of “To Kill a Mockingbird.”
He then moved to Sarasota, Florida to attend the New College of Florida, and developed lasting relationships with Katie Helms, Veronica Fannin, Matt Mazzuckelli, Chris Paget and many others. Studying anthropology, Jeff developed a passion for other cultures and environmental issues. Applying his lifelong love of writing, he wrote for the New College student-run newspaper The Catalyst. Graduating in 2004, his senior thesis can still teach us much today: “Teaching Peace to Youth: Coexistence in Israel and Abroad.” https://digitalcommons.ncf.edu/theses_etds/3396/
Jeff long suffered from a variety of allergies, and it was through his own journey of self-discovery and healing that he found his true life calling and passion: acupuncture. He became a licensed practitioner in 2011 and received his Master of Acupuncture in 2011, Master of Oriental Medicine in 2015, and Doctor of Oriental Medicine in 2017, all from the Maryland University of Integrative Health (Formerly the Tai Sophia Institute). He not only developed expertise in acupuncture, but also the wider practices of Traditional Chinese Medicine including herb treatments. During his time in Maryland he developed deep personal and professional relationships with Stephanie Gianni, Dan Parish, Kerry Westhauser, Noreen Javornik, Daniel Kemp, and countless others.
Everyone he treated agreed: Jeff was a uniquely gifted healer with a calm and gentle demeanor that guided his patients toward incredible improvements in physical, emotional and spiritual health. One of his greatest pleasures in life was to share his healing gifts with animals, and he became a certified animal acupuncturist in 2012 treating cats, dogs, and other pets throughout the greater Maryland area.
Beyond his academic and professional achievements, Jeff was simply a magnificent human being: he radiated love to all his close friends and family. He was also hilarious and brought laughter to all in his presence. He and his brother Matt claimed to develop their own familial sense of humor dubbed “Hubmor” (a mix of Simpsons, Seinfeld and SNL references and styles). They also shared a love of music and the band Phish seeing scores of shows together since 1996. On July 27, 2025, Jeff saw his last, and 100th, Phish show with Matt and his great friend Will Horan. https://medium.com/@solargarlicband/loss-love-and-phish-b5100bc541d5
The Huber family, as a whole, has sustained a series of devastating losses recently, losing Jeff’s Mother, Meimei Huber in December 2023, and Father, Neil Huber in January 2024. The Hubers who are left behind, hope Jeff, Mom and Dad are somewhere out there, perhaps watching a movie, and laughing together.
