Jerome Raymond Bohse (Jerry) was born on March 22, 1937, in Dayton Ohio, to Irene and Elmer Bohse. He passed peacefully on May 26, 2025. He was a devoted father to his four children, and a cherished husband to Ruth Bohse for 65 years. He first met Ruth in high school, and they dated while attending the University of Dayton. Upon graduation in 1959, Jerry moved to Maryland to start graduate school at the University of Maryland. Ruth graduated the following year and they immediately married and settled in Maryland. Jerry loved school and learning, and 11 years and four children later, in 1971, he received a PhD in Physics, with the whole family attending his graduation. The family moved to the new village of Owen Brown in Columbia Maryland in 1973, where Jerry was active in early village politics, serving on the Village Board.
Jerry spent his professional career in the space industry, working for several companies supporting various projects at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, including the Hubble Space Telescope.
His family, especially spending time with his grandchildren, brought him much joy. He was unbelievably smart and knew something about almost everything. He had a great sense of humor and was always ready with a joke, even if his family didn’t always appreciate the humor. He was a perfectionist, and whether it was a school, work, or home project like painting the house, he always made sure he did things right, no matter how long it took.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Donald Bohse and Robert Bohse. He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Bohse, his children, Cindy (Bob Heuckeroth) Bohse, Michael Bohse, Lynne (Daryl) Douglas and Stephen (Tina) Bohse, his grandchildren, Sarah Heuckeroth, Claire Heuckeroth, Daniel Heuckeroth, Brandon (Taylor) Douglas, Ethan (Gabby) Douglas, Ella Douglas, Julia Bohse and Emma Bohse, as well as his great-grandchildren, Jack Douglas and Eli Douglas.
A graveside service for Jerome will be held Monday, June 2, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Columbia Memorial Park, 12005 Clarksville Pike, Columbia, MD 21029.
