

Lucia always considered her two daughters, Marie Renzi and Laura Simmons, to be her greatest accomplishment. Together they enjoyed singing and dancing to the latest Bette Midler and Tina Turner songs, crabbing on the Wye River, seeing musicals on Broadway, and going shopping. Lucia also had many hobbies including, gardening, skiing, photography, scuba diving, and traveling.
From early on in her life, Lucia was driven to become a very successful business woman. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from UMBC, and then received a Master of Education from Loyola College. She was an art teacher for 13 years at The Forbush School, a leading Howard County real estate agent for Long and Foster, and most recently the Director of Marketing at Linganore Winecellars for 24 years.
Lucia had a very kind heart and was always willing to help those around her. She had a zest for life that was undeniable, and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends but never forgotten. In addition to her two daughters, Lucia is survived by her mother Lucille Aellen; by her brothers John Aellen, Victor Aellen, Anthony Aellen and Eric Aellen; by her sister Elizabeth Tomalis; by her son-in-law Stephen Renzi; and a treasure trove of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Lucia was preceded in death by her father John Aellen and niece Anna Tomalis.
A viewing will be held from 3-5 PM and 7-9 PM on Monday, May 12 at the Witzke Funeral Homes, Inc., 5555 Twin Knolls Road, Columbia MD 21045. A celebratory mass will be held at 11:30 AM Tuesday, May 13 at the St. Louis Church, 12500 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville MD.
