Martha E. Wiedel

Martha Elizabeth (Tapp) Wiedel, Nana to all her grandchildren, died on Sunday, February 18th in her home at Millers Grant in Ellicott City. Martha was 98 yrs. old. She died with interstitial lung disease. Immediate family members are husband Verdan (deceased) sons Michael and wife Suzanne, Randy (deceased) Donna Marie (deceased) Kevin and wife Mary, Brett and wife Pam, Paul (deceased) and wife Margie, daughter Marya and husband Ed Pecukonis, 15 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren.

Throughout the week prior to her death she was visited by neighbors and 4 generations of family members. Anyone that knew Martha knew that it was her faith, family and friends that filled her life.

Martha was raised and lived in Arlington, Virginia until marrying the love of her life, Verdan “Buzz” Wiedel at the end of WWII. They were married for 64 years. They lived in Berwyn Heights, Md., where they raised 6 children, all attending Holy Redeemer Church and School.

Moving to Howard County in 1970 they were parishioners at St. Mary, Laurel and later, St Louis, Clarksville. There they served couples as group leaders in Marriage Encounter. Martha was instrumental in coordinating the parish Bereavement Team and, after retiring, Buzz was ordained to the Deaconate where he served for 15 years at St Louis. Now, they’re together again!

Friends and families can visit the family at the Wake services on Thursday, Feb 22nd 3-5pm and 7-9pm at Witzke Funeral Home, 5555 Twin Knolls, Columbia, MD.

A funeral mass will also be celebrated at St Louis Catholic Church in Clarksville on Friday February 23rd at 12:00 noon. Internment is at St Louis Cemetery after the service.

A visitation for Martha will be held Thursday, February 22, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Witzke Funeral Homes Inc., 5555 Twin Knolls Road, Columbia, MD 21045. A visitation will occur Thursday, February 22, 2024 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, 5555 Twin Knolls Road, Columbia, MD 21045. A funeral service will occur Friday, February 23, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at St. Louis Catholic Church, 12500 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, MD 21029. Interment to follow at St. Louis Cemetery.
