Patricia Ann Simms

Pat was born on October 13, 1944, in Stamford, Connecticut to Joseph John Kersten and Mae Loretta Lineburgh where she spent her childhood. Pat moved to Maryland where she pursued a career in nursing. She graduated from Baltimore and Essex Community Colleges with a nursing degree and worked for various organizations, specializing is occupational health. She had a passion for helping people manage their health, staying active, and promoting a good quality of life.

Pat loved animals and with her husband, Joe Simms, they adopted cats who needed a good home. At one point, there were six cats living with Pat and Joe, which made for a very busy, but fun home.Throughout her life she supported organizations who protected and cared for animals.

Pat also found joy in beautifying her home and entertaining. She and Joe enjoyed planting flowers and beautiful plants to create a colorful home and garden. She loved entertaining family and friends, especially with good food. She and Joe also loved to drive and explore, finding new restaurants or neighborhood cafes with good desserts, which was her favorite part of a meal. Pat had a life well lived and she shared that life with others to encourage them during challenging moments.

Pat’s memory will be carried on with her family and friends, including Micah Simms-Gantt, Winston Gantt and their children and grandchildren, Joseph Simms III, Kaliq Simms and their children, her friends, Linda Wadian (and cats), Thomas Bundy and Sons, and Nehemiah Spence III and his family.

A visitation for Patricia will be held Friday, October 13, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Witzke Funeral Homes Inc., 5555 Twin Knolls Road, Columbia, MD 21045. A committal service will occur Friday, October 13, 2023 at 1:45 PM at Columbia Memorial Park, 12005 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, MD 21029. A funeral service will occur Friday, October 13, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 5555 Twin Knolls Road, Columbia, MD 21045.
