Raymond E. Hannen of Columbus, Georgia, passed away on October 24, 2020, in Columbia, Maryland, at the age of 89. Raymond was born in Flushing, New York, on July 15, 1931 to the late Ira Hannen and Elizabeth Hannen (nee McMahon). He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Clara Hannen; brother, Charles Hannen; and grandson Joseph Ferguson.
He is survived by his cherished wife of 66 years, Sara Hannen, who was undoubtedly the light of his life. Together they loved fishing, RV trips, attending Georgia Bulldog football games, and watching the Atlanta Braves.
Raymond served in the United States Army for almost twenty-three years, retiring from military service in the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam and was the recipient of four awards of the Bronze Star Medal. After his military service, Ray continued his faithful service to the Department of Defense, progressing in civilian positions and culminating as supervisor of a heavy mobile equipment maintenance facility at the Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany, Georgia, at the time of his civilian retirement in 1993.
His memory will be treasured by his wife, Sara; daughters, Donna Allen (John) of Midland, Georgia, Beth Ferguson (Kevin) of Pine Mountain Valley, Georgia, and Pamela Johnson (Todd) of Columbia, Maryland; grandchildren Amy Settles (Jon), J. David Allen (Danielle), Justin Ferguson, Bryce Johnson, and Kayla Johnson; great-grandchildren, Sara Settles, Kaylee Ferguson, Dane Ferguson, Elijah Allen, and Madelyn Allen; and many nieces and nephews.
