Roger Alan Nye

Roger Alan Nye of Elkridge, MD, age 61, beloved husband, father, Pop-Pop, and friend, went home to the Lord on February 20, 2026. Born in Chicago, IL, Roger joined the Air Force at age 20, serving honorably for 20 years in: West Berlin, Germany; San Antonio, TX; Colorado Springs, CO; S. Korea; Aurora, CO; and Sumter, SC. He also earned a degree in Business Administration along the way.

After retiring from the Air Force as a Senior Master Sergeant, he continued working in the Defense Industry for an additional 21 years, including almost two years in Afghanistan. He took immense pride in serving the United States and supporting and preparing troops for essential missions related to national defense.

Roger’s hobbies included genealogy research, fantasy football, and listening to jazz music. He also loved taking road trips with his wife, Barbara, including other family members whenever possible. In the 10 years spanning 2015-2024, Roger and Barbara visited all 50 states, taking 120 road trips, and visiting 150 Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives (DDD’s). His favorite city was Charleston, SC, and his favorite DDD was Storm Castle Café in Bozeman, MT.

Roger is best known for his humor, kindness, willingness to help, and abundant love of family. He was the rock of his family and will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife of almost 39 years, Barbara, sons Geoffrey and Zachary, daughter-in-law, Jaclyn, and three grandchildren, Kenleigh, Hannah, and Jacob.

We invite family and friends to join us in celebrating his life on Friday, April 3, 2026, at Witzke Funeral Home, 5555 Twin Knolls Road, Columbia, MD 21045. Gathering will begin at 4pm with a service at 5pm. Your love and support means the world to us during this time.
