Sandra attended St. Brigid Elementary School in Xenia before the family moved to Yellow Springs where she attended and graduated from Bryan High School. She met her future husband, Michael in the 9th grade. Mike moved to Dayton in his senior year and Sandra and Mike continued to see each other until he joined the Marines. They were engaged shortly after he enlisted and were married in 1964 when he returned from the Far East. They moved to his next duty station in Philadelphia where their 1st son, Michael David was born. They moved back to Ohio upon the end of her husband’s enlistment. Son #2 – Richard was born in Xenia, Ohio.
In 1971, the family moved to Columbia, Maryland where son #3, Jason was born and the family still resides. Sandra’s focus was on Early Childhood Education. She took classes at several Colleges in Maryland and eventually worked in the Montessori School world for several years. Working in the early childhood field was in her words, “the happiest days she ever had”. Although she had to retire later in her career due to knee surgery, she remained a young woman at heart.
She is survived by husband Michael A. and sons Michael D. and Jason as well as Granddaughters Crystal and Kaya Lee. She also leaves behind special cousin Vannetta Liggins as well as a multitude of additional cousins, and many special childhood friends. Sandra was preceded in death by son Richard, her mom and dad, her half-brother Charles and stepfather William Harris. She loved them all dearly.
