Sandy was an inspiration and role model for those around her. Her warmth and caring nature shined brilliantly through her every thought and action. Her family was her world, regardless of if they were related by blood or by bond. Her motherly ways brought love and support to everyone she cared for. Her intense capacity for love was only matched by her fighting spirit.
Sandy was born and raised in Columbus, GA. She graduated from Jordan High School in 1969. After a few starter jobs, she found her lifelong employer with the US Army Corps of Engineers. She received an associate degree in Secretarial Science from Chattahoochee Valley Community College in 1978. Sandy married her husband, William Snelling, on July 5, 1979, and in 1980 moved to Columbia, MD. While working, she attended University of Maryland University College (now UM Global Campus) and received a BS in Information Management. Sandy had two sons 14 months apart, Mike and Chris. She retired in 2017 from the US Army Corps of Engineers after 40 years of service most recently for the Government Accounting Office.
Sandy was an active member of Harvester Baptist Church. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school and helping coordinate Vacation Bible School and other special events over the years. Her faith was important to her, and she cared greatly for her church family.
Sandy is the daughter of the late Douglas Dallas Teal and the late Verna Dove Teal. She is survived by William, her husband of 43 years, her sons Mike and Chris, her siblings Vickie Miles, Terry Teal and Rickey Teal, her sisters-in-law Debra Self and Susan Koning, and her many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her brothers-in-law Thomas and James Snelling and nephew Zachary (Paul) Mathena.
