I am a patron of the Bagel Bakery and just heard the news about Steve's passing. He was always so incredibly nice to me whenever I stopped into the bakery by myself or with my family. He would smile and ask me about life - he always took a moment to genuinely ask and had positively lovely things to say. I will miss him tremendously. All who knew him have been blessed by his goodness.

Dear Susie, I am so sorry for your loss; my thoughts and prayers are certainly with you and your family.  Please accept my deepest sympathy.  Steve was my best childhood friend, as clearly indicated by the posted 1960s picture of him and I on the porch of my parents' old home on Anthony Street.  Even though we did not remain close in adulthood, I still feel a special relationship with him.  May we look forward to the day that we shall meet again in God's glory--in heaven.

Dear Susie,

I am so very sorry for your loss.  Looking at the online photos of Stevie as a boy on Anthony Street and of the two of you going to the prom put a smile on my face.  You even got a photo of my brothers Ron and Dave and of our house 308.  Those were the days!  I know you miss him and will always as I still miss my dad.  Time never really heals but I promise you God will help you live again.

Steve Schaaf-You were the voice of calm and reassurance during a time of change at our Olney store.  We learned to achieve more, serve our customers better, and stress-out less-because we knew we could always depend on you.  You said working with the kids kept you young:I believe it did.  You guided them gently yet firmly-and with oh so much patience!  You were good at noticing people and making them feel special.  You treated us "big kids" equally well-posessing endless forgiveness and a listening ear for all our troubles.  I never wanted any football team to win 'till I met "Mr. Pittsburgh!"  Go Steelers!"  You were a true man of honor towards your wife, family, and friends.  Watching you enjoy people and serve them made me feel safe at work.  I loved calling you at home and hearing you tease Susie and Connor as you played with them.   I learned so much from you-my temper and coping skills expanded under your tutlege-I am a better employee because of you, and  I hope, a better person for having known you.  Farewell, Mr. Schaaf-I loved you, Friend.

My love and prayers to my family.  Kristy, u r a sister to me, I know your dad loved you like crazy.  Susie, my heart aches for your loss. My sweet loving aunt, u r in my prayers.  Ryan, keep your Dad alive in connor.  Uncle steve was a hard working, incredibly loving man.  U all are a constant in my thoughts.

35 years ago, we were fortunate to meet this caring, wonderful person.   Our fortune tripled when he agreed to join us in building the bagel business.   The ultimate Steelers fan, Steve was ready to take on anyone who didn't share his passion.    He brought that same passion to his work.   Our lives will be forever changed with his passing.    He was truly valued.
