A funeral service will be 10am, Wednesday, February 3rd at St Luke the Evangelist Church in Columbia, and interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Betty was born on August 15, 1927 in Chicago, IL to James and Mary Bratsakis. She grew up in an ethnic Greek neighborhood with her two brothers, John and Andrew, and sister, Irene. She met Lou Kontras in Chicago in 1945 while Lou was based at Glenview Naval Air Station for flight training. Lou and Betty were married on October 10, 1948 in Chicago.
After WWII, Betty and Lou moved to Columbia to be near relatives. They worked together at their two businesses, Lou’s Washette near the University of Missouri Campus and later, The Forum Laundry.
Betty is survived by son, James; grandsons, Alexi and Evan, as well as their wives Jamie and Amy; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband of 65 years, Lou, and her siblings. John, Andy, and Irene.
Betty was fortunate enough to have many friends in Columbia, including long friendships with Wilma Cleek, Arita Travlos, and Gale James, as well as their families. She shared many fond memories with them. She also took great joy in her Church family at St. Luke the Evangelist Greek Orthodox Church.
