Bobby was born in Boone County on May 2, 1934 to Velpo and Flossie (McKissick) Roberts. He was a graduate of Hickman High School. On March 15, 1962, he was united in marriage to Marcella Caruthers, who survives. Bobby was a self-employed contractor, building many family homes throughout Boone County. He was also employed with the University in the athletic department. He was a talented artist, loved music and singing and had a deep-rooted appreciation of antiques. He enjoyed refinishing and restoring furniture, re-caning chairs and attending auctions. With his family, he loved listening to music, stomping them at Trivial Pursuit, and watching sports and westerns.
In addition to his wife, Marcella, Bobby is survived by two daughters, Shelly (Vern) Johnson and Angie (Chad) Rosenstengel; three grandchildren, Katelyn, Leah and Keiland; one great grandson, Carter; one brother-in-law, Earl (Mariea) Caruthers, two sisters-in-law, Sue Caruthers and Eula Caruthers, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bobby may be best remembered for his resilience, having defeated death countless times, leaving his family, friends and doctors in complete and total amazement. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
