Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 3 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 West in Columbia, followed immediately by a celebration of Carri’s life.
Born in Kirkwood, Missouri on February 3, 1970 to Marv Risner and Denise (Ehrhart) LaMonda, Carri was always a force. She was known as someone who always stuck up for the little guy and was a friend to all by the time she graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1988. She later made her way to Boston where she graduated from culinary school at Newbury College and joined forces with Brian James. They moved to Columbia together and opened Le Petit Bouchon, a popular downtown restaurant. Their greatest collaboration, however, was when their cherished daughter Madeleine came along.
Carri went on to become a culinary arts and baking/pastry instructor at Columbia Area Career Center. She loved her students and she loved baking, especially bread. True to form, Carri decided to embark on another challenge and returned to school to pursue higher education so she could move into educational administration. She achieved a Master’s degree and was working on her Education Specialist degree despite her illness and treatment – nothing was discouraging to her. She was most recently the director of the Boonslick Technical Education Center in Boonville.
Carri was endlessly creative, funny and compassionate – qualities that caught the eye of a fellow educator at a conference in 2010. Two years later, on July 1, 2012, Anthony Kindwall and Carri Risner were married at Stephens Lake Park in Columbia. She was many things: chef, teacher, administrator, artist, photographer, friend, sister, daughter – but her favorite roles were wife and mom.
Carri will be deeply missed by her best friend and husband, Anthony Kindwall; precious daughter, Madeleine James; father, Marv (Debby) Risner; mother, Denise LaMonda; siblings Jessica (Daniel) Mueller, Jennifer LaMonda, Justin LaMonda, Lacey (Soobin Oh) Risner, Tyler (Melissa) Risner and Casey (Tara) Hehr.
She is preceded in death by stepfather, Gary “Doc” LaMonda; grandmother, Virginia Risner; grandfather, Lacy Risner; and uncle, Stephen Risner.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Vincent P. Gurucharri MD Foundation (www.docg.org) or to the Central Missouri Humane Society (www.cmhspets.org).
