

Charles O. Gibson (Charlie) died at home on January 8, 2025 surrounded by his family. Charlie is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia Lee (Ginny) and his children Monte (Madrian), Rhonda (Michael) Riley, and Cindy (Bert) Chasteen. He is also survived by his sister Linda Gibson (Bruce Finnie). His grandchildren are: Kayla and Abbygail; Chad, Katie and Glen; Casey, Brady and Tory and their families and 9 great grandchildren.
Charlie was born July 28, 1939 in Boone County and was raised on a farm in the Harg area. He was involved in 4-H and FFA and loved the outdoors where he spent time hunting, fishing and trapping. He graduated from Hickman High School in 1957. He married the love of his life, Ginny June 22, 1958. He graduated from the University of Missouri in 1971 with a degree in Ag. Journalism and accepted a position with USDA MO State FSA office soon after and retired from this job in Oct. 1996.
Charlie and Ginny raised their three kids on a farm NW of Columbia and upon his retirement he and Ginny farmed full time, raising commercial cattle, haying and supporting his daughters' horse hobbies He and Monte loved to work on tractors and farm machinery. When his grandchildren were old enough, Charlie spent time camping, fishing and attending their events and activities, including attending the MO State Fair every year. Charlie's hobbies included woodworking, making furniture for his family and basket weaving.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. If you ever had the chance to meet Charlie, you always came away with a smile because he had such a positive outlook on life and truly enjoyed lifting others up.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, O. L. (Hoot) and Cloris Gage Gibson and younger brother Don S. Gibson.
