Chester graduated from Kirksville University with degrees in Criminal Law and Psychology. Chester spent 26 years as a Columbia Police Officer. After retiring from the police force, he worked 10 years for Missouri’s Probation and Paroral, and then served 13 years as a pastor at West Park Methodist Church in Moberly. He liked to joke “I put them away. I let them out. And then I helped them stay out.” Even in difficult interactions, Chester showed respect and consideration; treating each person as a human being.
One never to sit idle, Chester was drawn to people and social activities. He loved volunteering at the local Food Bank, calling Square Dances, and teaching Square and Round Dancing. He emceed talent nights for the local Senior Center, was assistant Boy Scout Leader and later Scout Master. But above all, he loved spending time with his family. Whether cheering for his children or grandchildren at sports games, playing board games at home or taking walks with his wife, his family was first in all he did.
Chester is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Elizabeth; his children Paula Naugle (Shawn) and Mark Heyer (Charlette); three grandsons, Cameron (Haley) and Ryan (Stephanie) Naugle, and Cody Heyer; three great-grandchildren Finley, Keeley, and Oliver Naugle. He is also survived by one sister Vivian Apprill (Larry), one brother Floyd Heyer (Kathy) and several nieces and nephews.
Chester will be remembered for his love for God and his family. His willingness to help whomever and wherever it was needed. His sense-of-humor and wisdom was well known by all who met him.
