Christina Marie Dihel, known as Christy, was born on December 19th, 1977, between two snowstorms, at St. James Hospital in Pontiac, Illinois. She graduated from Wentzville Holt High School in Wentzville, Missouri in 1997. She received her AS in Nursing from St. Charles Community College in 2001 and became an RN. She preferred to provide care for adolescents and babies in a home care setting but has worked in many medical settings.
Christy suffered for nearly 30 years from Crohn’s Disease and Gastroparesis. Despite having her own medical illness, her love was to provide nursing care to those that needed it more than her. These diseases resulted in her to stop working in 2021, however her goal was to return to nursing again soon.
Christy loved spending time with her many nieces and nephews. She enjoyed riding horses and spending time in the Smokey Mountains as well as the Rocky Mountains. Christy was kind, caring, and giving. She constantly put in the effort to make others comfortable and happy.
She is survived by her parents, Donald and Barbara Dihel and her sisters, Angela (Mike) Brunson, Ericka Sibit (Jon Tesch) and Felicia Dihel, her nieces and nephews, Emily Brunson, Ian (Elizabeth) Brunson, Tegan Sibit, Clayton Sibit, Delila Tesch, Kennedy Sibit, and Bryce Robinson, grandmothers Mildred Dihel and Vera Clifton. She also is survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends all of whom will miss her deeply.
Her Celebration of Life will be at Evergreen Christian Church in Salem, Illinois at 11:00 on February 25, 2022. Internment at Palestine Cemetery in Iuka, Illinois will immediately follow the celebration. A light meal will be served at the church following the internment. Family and friends are invited to come and share fond memories and stories. The family encourages attendees to wear casual clothing with a bit of purple, as that is Christy’s favorite color.
