Christine Poe

Christine Poe, our beautiful, and precious mother and grandmother and great-grandmother, sister, and friend went to be with her heavenly husband and family Thursday, May 22, 2025. She passed peacefully at home. She was 94 years old. We will cherish our wonderful memories and miss her dearly. We were so blessed to have such a strong and kindhearted woman in our lives.

Friends and family may gather from 1-2pm, Saturday June 7 at Memorial Funeral Home 1217 Business Loop 70 West Columbia, MO. A celebration of her life will begin at 2pm, followed by burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Christine was a lifelong resident of Boone County. Born September 8, 1930, to Claude William and Opal Louise Cleek Weldon; the eldest of three daughters. Opal passed when Christine was 8 years old. Claude later met and married Lena Jane Pauley.

On December 11, 1947, she married James Ralph Poe, they spent 65 years married before his passing in 2012. She enjoyed canning all the produce her husband grew in his garden.

For 15 years, she worked for the University of Missouri bookstore in Brady Commons as the supervisor for Candy Etc. After she retired from the University, she worked for Millcreek Elementary for 14 years as the cafeteria cashier.

She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and sang in the choir with her sister Wanda Mahan. She enjoyed reading mystery novels. She loved people and children.

She is survived by her children, Jeannie Poe, Kathi (Miguel) Rios, Debbie Poe, and Mike (Vernethia) Poe; grandchildren, Jason (Ginger) Gibson, Christie (Joe) Smith, Shauna Rios, Cody (Lacy) Rios, Logan Poe, and Jensen Poe; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Sonny (Patsy) Weldon, several nieces and nephews and a loving extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Ralph Poe; parents, Opal and Claude Weldon; a stepmother, Lena Weldon; sisters, Shirley Kilbourn, Dorothy Collins, and Wanda Mahan; and granddaughter, Wendi Rochelle Miya.
