Bob was born in Fortescue, Missouri on February 5, 1927, to Elston and Margaret Hines. He graduated from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman State) in 1949 with a degree in Secondary Education. He Married Barbara McReynolds in Kirksville, Missouri in 1950. Bob taught History and Driver’s Education in Spickard and Plattsburg Missouri. He served and was honorably discharged from the Army in both World War II and the Korean War. He then graduated with a Juris Doctorate from the University of Missouri Columbia in 1957.
After passing the bar exam, Bob went into private practice in Columbia, Missouri. He started practicing with Dave Bear and the firm evolved into Bear, Hines, Thomas, Dierkes & Stamper. During this time, he helped start Century State Bank in Columbia, Missouri. After many years, Bob left to start another firm. Bob then began practicing law with Robert Dierkes and his son, Robert H. Hines at the Hines and Dierkes Law Firm. Later, Scott Wilson joined the firm and the firm became the Hines & Wilson Law Firm. Bob continued to practice law, spending the majority of his time helping injured workers, until he was 89 years old. He was involved in the development of Legal Aide for the state of Missouri, served as general counsel for the Missouri Association of Realtors and was actively involved in the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys and was a past president of the organization. Bob was well respected in the legal community and was a great lawyer.
As much as Bob was passionate about the practice of law, he was also passionate about life. He taught those around him to enjoy a fine meal, good wine, and be better people. Bob loved his family, jazz music, recreational reading, and travel with his wife, Barbara. He quietly did many good deeds for others during his nearly 92 years. Bob had a great sense of humor and was an avid storyteller. Bob was well loved and will be missed by many.
