

Darrell was born on October 30, 1946 in Fayette, MO the son of Sidney King and Mary Mossie (Harris) Brown. He spent his early childhood in Hawaii and Germany with his family while his father was actively serving in the Army. Returning stateside the family settled in New Franklin where he was raised by his incredible mother Mary Mossie. Darrell graduated from New Franklin High School in 1964, then went on to work at a local filling station until he was drafted in 1966. He served two years in the Army, stationed in Germany, working in the motor pool. Returning home in 1968 he started working for Kelly Pontiac in Columbia. Darrell and Beverly had their first date on January 20, 1968. They were married in Boonville at Immanuel Lutheran Church on April 19, 1969. The couple resided between Boonville and New Franklin while Beverly finished nursing school in Kansas City, and Darrell worked as the mechanic for the City of Boonville. In 1974 the couple moved to Columbia and Darrell was hired at Boone Electric Co-Op as a meter reader until being promoted to Journeyman Lineman. He worked for the Co-Op for the next 30 years until his retirement in 2004.
A man of many talents, Darrell enjoyed playing golf, gardening, woodworking, restoring classic cars, riding motorcycles and reading. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 48 years, a devoted father to his 3 children and incomparable grandfather to his 6 grandchildren. Darrell was a friend to many, often sharing stories and a blue-eyed twinkling smile while touring the aisles of the stores around town. He will be missed by so many, as he was taken too soon, but his generous spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him dearly.
Visitation will be on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at Memorial Funeral Home from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Funeral services will be on Monday, February 19, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Bradley Williams officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors.
Survivors include: his wife of 48 years, Beverly Brown (Goldammer) ; three children, Wade Brown of New Franklin, MO, Kristofer Brown of Columbia, MO and Tia Brown of Columbia, MO; six grandchildren, Avery Brown, Zoey Brown, Smith Taylor, Charlotte Brown, Lawson Taylor and Darrell P. Brown; his mother, Mary Mossie Brown of New Franklin, MO; one brother, David Brown (Rhonda) of New Franklin, MO; one niece, Courtney Renner (Mike) of New Franklin, MO and one great-nephew, Benton Renner. He was preceded in death by his father, Sidney King Brown.
