David Lee Jones

David was born April 2, 1944 in Boonville, MO to Alvie Raymond Jones and Jamilee (Baldwin) Watts. The family later moved to Columbia, MO and David graduated from Hickman high school. He attended the University of Missouri.

Dave went on to a career in the movie theater business, including stops in Rolla, Missouri, and Lawrence, Kansas he spent a majority of his career as the Columbia city manager for Commonwealth Theaters.

For 35 years, Dave oversaw the Acolyte program at Missouri United Methodist Church, his beloved church home. He also served in a variety of roles and for the last 15 years of his ministry, was the Director of Parish Visits for MUMC. He also led a team of volunteers to do worship services at care facilities all around the Columbia area, providing faith and hope to so many. Throughout his time at the church, he worked with, mentored, and comforted generations of families.

He is survived by his brother, Howard Jones of Grove City, Ohio. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and dear friends who felt like family

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Donald Watts, and his nephew, Danny Jones.

Services will be at Missouri United Methodist Church on Thursday, June 11, 2026. A visitation will be from 9:30 AM until the funeral hour at 10:30 AM. Graveside burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery 1217 Business Loop 70 West Columbia, MO.
