He was born Oct 2, 1929, in Mexico MO to Harry and Eliza Meyer. After graduating high school in Mexico MO, Don joined the Navy in November of 1948 and served 4 years, and is a Veteran of the Korean Conflict. Leaving the Navy, he moved to Columbia MO, and attended the University of Missouri obtaining his Bachelors and Masters in Education.
Don met his loving wife of 59 years, Rosalia Meyer, while teaching Industrial Arts in Wellsville MO. Don and Rosalia were married on August 29, 1959. They moved to Kansas City MO where both were teachers for 10 years before moving to Columbia MO in 1969 where he worked for Missouri State Teachers Association for 25 years. He modeled how to live life to its fullest, and led a very active life through his 70’s and early 80’s including dance groups, water skiing, ice skating and was active in his church. His strong will, sharp wit and ever optimistic attitude will be fond memories as he is missed by his friends and family.
He is survived by his wife Rosalia Meyer, sister, Dorothy Clausen and Dominic DeMay, sisters in-law Helen & Jim Signer, Alice and Herb Barret, children and grandchildren Brad & Mary Jane Meyer (William & Addison), Melody & Scott Gunn (Mathew & Abby) and Crystal Meyer (Christian Haynes).
He was preceded in death by this brothers Harold and Bobby Joe Meyer.
Visitation will be 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. Monday, November 26, 2018 with a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
