Doris Lynn Harvey, 70, of Columbia, Missouri, passed away April 22, 2026, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia. She was born July 18, 1955, in Elmhurst, Illinois, to Richard Albert and Marion June (Garrett) Harvey.
Doris graduated from Willow brook High School in Villa Park, Illinois, in 1973. She held many roles in her life, but she was best known in the Columbia community as an antique dealer and computer builder. Through her work in antiques, she built lasting relationships and was a knowledgeable presence among fellow collectors and customers. In the late 1980s through the early 2000s she pursued a career building computers for many Columbia area residents and businesses. Earlier in life, she worked in the restaurant industry, starting in the Chicago area and later in Columbia (Garcia's, Lonestar Steakhouse, Ruby Tuesdays) where her professionalism and personality left an impression on many.
Doris's Christian faith helped guide her throughout her life. She always shared a connection with nature, especially in her younger years when she lived in the Northwest, in Oregon and hiked, climbed, and experienced the beauty of the outdoors. In later years, she expressed that same love through tending her flower gardens and caring for local wildlife.
A creative and inquisitive spirit, Doris wrote poetry, crafted jewelry, studied astrology and had a natural curiosity about the world.
Doris was especially devoted to rescuing animals, particularly cats. She worked tirelessly to help homeless cats by ensuring they were spayed or neutered and placed into loving homes.
She is survived by her brother, Mark Harvey; her sister, Daryl Johnson (David Deweese); her nephew, Travis Bethke; her nieces, Janel Scott (Christopher Lind), Jessica Tieskoetter (Matthew Tieskoetter), and Danielle Deweese; and her great-nephews, Simon Bethke, Jonathan and Evan Tieskoetter, along with many friends and loved ones whose lives she touched.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard A. Harvey and Marion Garrett Harvey.
Memorial contributions may be made in Doris’s honor to Armani’s Angels, 4350 N. Bridlespur, Rocheport, MO 65279, or to a local animal rescue organization of the donor’s choice.
Graveside services will be held Saturday May 30, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Columbia, Missouri.
