Born on January 12, 1937, in Columbia, Missouri, Dorothy was the daughter of Arthur and Wilma Levacy. A lifelong resident of Columbia, she dedicated herself to her work, her family, and her community with unwavering love and strength.
Dorothy served for 50 years as an administrative assistant at Ellis Fischel Cancer Research Center, where her diligence and compassion made a lasting impact on colleagues and patients alike.
She married her first husband, Marshall Treaster, who preceded her in death. In 2005, she married Dr. Claude “Frank” Smith, who also preceded her in death. In addition to her husbands, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings: William “Bill,” Barbara, and Judy.
Dorothy had a remarkable heart for children, especially those in foster care. Over the years, she helped raise many foster children, caring especially for infants awaiting adoption. Providing a loving and nurturing home during those critical early months was her life’s quiet but powerful ministry.
She is survived by her son, Marshall Treaster of Columbia, Missouri; her loving foster daughter, Deana Hendren; two grandchildren, Alex and Heather Treaster, both of Columbia; her niece, Susan Levacy; great-nieces; and many other cherished relatives and friends.
A woman of great compassion, faith, and perseverance, Dorothy’s legacy is reflected in the countless lives she touched through her kindness and care. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Words of comfort and support may be shared with the family at the visitation which will be, Monday, June 23, 2025, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home, Columbia, MO. Services honoring and celebrating Dorothy’s life will follow at 1:00 p.m. Committal service and prayer will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
